2nd Annual Fish Out of Water 5K

Jensen's swim team held its annual 5K on Saturday morning. Jensen, Kim Taylor and I participated in the fun event to help raise money for the Cavemen Swim Team. This was Jensen's first 5K race and he did great! They had over a hundred runners there to support the Swim Team.
Jensen approaching the finish line. He only stopped once to tie his shoe and ran the whole way. He was nervous, as usual, about running because he hadn't ever ran before, but he did great and pushed it hard at the end.
Jensen finished in 28:18. I was very proud of him that he chose to run the 5K instead of running just the mile, which was an option. It did take me coaxing him a bit.
Kim and I ran as well. She is my faithful running partner and I don't think I would exercise half as much if I didn't know she would be there eaiting for me. Thanks for all her support and being there to run with me on Saturday. It was a fun way to start our Saturday morning.
We finished in 29:50. We wanted to finish under 30 minutes...so go us!

Spooky Halloween!

Can you guess who these spooks are? I grew up with these two dressing up for Halloween. My dad and mom would dress up and go scare the people in our neighborhood and ward, but they haven't dressed up for years. My mom decided about a year ago that it was time to dress up again. They make a handsome looking couple. My mom made their costumes and made the bread that they took around to people that they visited on Halloween. My kids thought that it was awesome that their grandparents were cool enough to dress up. Thanks for the memories!
Boom had to dress up for his singles ward Halloween party and we decided that he definitely need a costume with hair. He always takes the kids trick or treating and I get to man the door. This year it was pouring rain so we didn't have many trick or treaters and Easton only went out for a short time because he was soaked from the rain. Easton was Frankenstein, so we decided that Boom could be his creator the "Mad Scientist"
Here is our Halloween crew. Vampires, Witches, Frankies, Hillbillies, and Greasers! It made for a very fun Halloween. We had chili and cornbread and watched our traditional "Hocus Pocus". It was fun to be together.

Have you got my costume yet?

It was October 1st and Easton came to me and asked...."Mom where's my costume? Have you got it yet?" I said "E, its the first of October, I have 4 weeks to get it ready. Do you know what you want to be?" He told me that he wanted to be Frankenstein. Great! How am I going to pull that one off. So every day after he asked me the first time, Easton would say "You got my costume yet?"
I found a how to in a magazine and I think it turned out pretty well. He made a great Frankenstein and what matters most is that he was happy!

Legacy Halloween Parade

Oooooo! Scary people walking the halls of Legacy Elementary. Its the annual Halloween Parade. Easton made a great Frankenstein!
E was doing pretty good in his Frankie boots!
Jaxon was a jester and made a great one at that!
Easton's friend Jake was a skeleton!
Mallorie was a darling cowgirl! Love the fringe. She looked so great!
Kassi was Toy Story Barbie! She is in 6th grade and this is her last Legacy Parade!

Traditional Pumpkin Carving

Here's a peek at the great pumpkins that we carved on Friday night. Boo scary!!
This is a great tradition that we have had since the kids were very little. Everyone looks forward to carving pumpkins and laughing with each other. We always have great food and even greater company.
This is the first year that Easton did his pumpkin pretty much all by himself. He did great!
Jensen and Devyn cousins and great friends. Dev started High School this year and told Jensen that she sure missed him at school. Jensen is still in Junior High for one more year. (Thank Goodness)
Devyn and Jordyn, cousins and best friends. Jord has watched Dev and Jax for many years and this is the first year she hasn't for a long time. Jordy truly misses them.
Shea and Kyle, first pumpikin carving as a married couple.
Remi, my first grandchild....haha! She's just one of the family. Shea and Kyle's first born.
Thanks Gege and Pop for a very fun night. We look forward to many more! We love you!

St George Marathon 2010

Marathon weekend! The accumulation of weeks of training, the anticipation of finishing, goals accomplished, commraderie with friends and training partners, unity among family members cheering on father and husband, agony of injury, and support of many. These are all emotions that one can feel on marathon weekend. We are so EXTREMELY proud of Boomer this weekend. We are proud of his accomplishment, of what he taught us, and the things that we learned. We are grateful to a Heavenly Father that kept him safe and mobile, when he could have been in pretty bad shape. We are grateful that he listened to his body, but never quit. He is an example to us all of being victorious in a situation when he could have felt defeated. We love him and are grateful for his health and ambitions.
This marathon was one of highs and lows. His time wasn't his fastest, in fact it was his slowest. He began with 2 injuries and ended with 3. He started with a pulled groin and a strained ankle from a previous injury, but was determined that he would still run the marathon. He felt great and did great up until about mile 14. His pace til then was averaging about a 8 minute mile and he was on track to qualify for Boston, which was his goal this year. After mile 14, is a down hill that is quite steep and was reaking havoc on his pulled groin. He started to feel pain now instead of discomfort, but kept going. About mile 20, he had the worst calf cramping he has ever felt. So much that they locked up and he almost fell on his face. A nice man grabbed him before he did. From then on, he tried running on and off but it was too painful. Instead of quitting he walked the remaining 6 miles.
When his expected time of 3:30 passed and so did 4 hours, I was extremely worried. I wasn't leaving my spot until he came in. All of his running friends had crossed the finish line, but no Boomer. My mind wandered and I had such anxiety that he had injured himself to the point of going to the hospital. I waited......then in the distance I saw him. I was grateful he was walking and so very proud of him that he didn't quit. I will never forget the look on his face when he saw me in the crowd, he looked defeated and I knew what he was thinking. I waved so he knew that I was waiting and that I was so proud of him. I felt the tears sting my eyes as I realized that I loved him more today than yesterday and that he was my heroe.
